The Crab Pulsar, a relatively young neutron start, is the central star in the Crab Nebula. The Crab Pulsar spins 30 times per second and is the collapsed core of a massive star that exploded, while the Crab Nebula is the expanding remnant of the star's outer shell. Because the Pulsar's strong X-rays are known to be constant, it is used as a calibration object for X-ray astronomy. The Crab Pulsar was first noted in 1968 by two separate observers.
